Meeting Notes for October 19, 2009
Leader: Kent Luke

The following members met at the FGBC of Kennett @ 6:00 p.m.  Kent Luke, Jeff Smart, Steve McElwrath, Shawn Parker and Bryan Johnson.  Ryan Mason and Chuck Provance were unable to attend.

  • We went over and evaluated the October 10, 2009 seminar held at the FGBC of Rector, AR and felt that it received a very good response with most giving it an 8-10 point rating on most areas.     (The Evaluation Report is attached to the end of these minutes)

We have compiled the names with phone numbers and emails from the sign-in sheet provided for registration at the Seminar and since question 5 on the response sheet was the weakest (dealing with implementation of the "Next Steps" with "handles" to use), I will ask Tim Gates, once he has finished the resources on Video usage to also provide more clear information on the implementation of the process of "Re-Focusing" the local church and with the use of the email autoresponder, I will begin a monthly update with the names provided.

  • Since we are working on setting up, in cooperation with the Executive Board, workshops for the MoArk Association to be held at The Hitts Chapel GBC in Piggott, AR on March 27, 2010, we will plan a 3 hour specialties workshop in early September, (10 or 17) with no expected cost for attendees which will be  focused on "Technology in Today's Church."  Kent Luke with speak with his brother Todd Luke at GB Ministries in Poplar Bluff about the possibilities of bringing in representatives from both Media Shout, Easy Worship and someone to teach the basics of PowerPoint to those who attend, as to how to use it effectively in worship.  These representatives will also be addressing both the benefits of adding Audio/Video presentations to worship and the legalities concerning copyright laws.
  • We discussed several possibilities in terms of workshops to focus on for the March 2010 MoArk Association Session:

1.    Technology:  Perhaps with Todd Luke leading on the preliminary use of audio and video in the church as to the benefits of such use and a general guide for its effectiveness.

2.    The establishment of a new Sunday School Class / Small Group.

3.    Planning the Worship Service for the greatest impact on Life Change.

4.    1st Impressions:  Perhaps with Luther Rhodes of FGBC of Jackson, MO, looking at how to "meet" the new comer / visitor and make their experience as best as possible.

  • We have decided to go back to our original date of February for our annual workshop / seminar ( Feb 19 or 26, 2011) as it seems to have less conflicts in scheduling than the Fall dates.  We originally considered Ed Stetzer but will have to decide on that in our next meeting.  As a side note, Steven Gray from GB Ministries told me that he could arrange a date with him if we just contact him.

Jeff Smart noted that with a lot of discussion taking place on "targeting" certain groups to reach out to, we may want to look into that further.  I noted that Ed Stetzer could address that issue as his focus tends to be on planting "missional" churches.

Next Meeting is tentatively scheduled for

January 11, 2010 @ 6:00 p.m.

FGBC of Kennett with Steve's approval.
